🀫 Show, Don't Tell #33 - Did we just find a new best practice?

Read Time: 4.2 minutes

Welcome to our 33rd edition of Show, Don't Tell. A newsletter to help you build REMARKABLE interactive demos...3 tips at a time.

This week we:

  1. Set context for confused prospects
  2. Nail the mobile-first demo
  3. Gate a demo center

Let's get after it...

We are Navattic fanatics.

We had the idea for this newsletter after hundreds of hours spent building Navattic demos for our past companies and current clients. We love making remarkable interactive demos, and want to share helpful tips and examples so you can too.

A huge thanks to Navattic for helping make this a reality. If you want to create a better experience for your buyers, go check them out.

Tip #1 - Don't Assume Everyone Knows How Demos Work

Bloomfire might have created a new β€œDemoDash Best Practice.”

They actually explain how to navigate the tour. Which is especially useful if you're selling into industries where people aren't familiar with how interactive demos work.

We like this because:

  • Not everyone has clicked through dozens of interactive demos like we have
  • Some industries are just getting comfortable with digital experiences
  • A confused prospect is likely to bounce instead of asking for help

Most of us assume everyone knows how to click through an interactive tour. Bloomfire remembers that assumption makes an ass out of you and me.

Tip #2 - Mobile Apps Deserve Mobile Demo Treatment

Case Status built a mobile-first app, so they built a mobile-first demo. Makes sense, right?

But here's what's cool – instead of just showing you mobile screens, they used the mobile view feature inside Navattic to give you the illusion you're looking at an actual phone.

This makes sense for Case Status because:

  • It matches how people will actually use their product
  • Creates authenticity instead of a weird workaround

This reminds me of Go Rout showing their software on tablets and smartwatches back in Edition #22. Both of these companies get that context matters more than the screens you show.

Tip #3 - Gate Smart, Not Often

RingCentral gated their demo center once, instead of putting forms in front of every single demo. God bless.

They’ve got a beautiful 2-step form that captures company size and basic contact info.

We all know Demand Gen wants to capture leads. We also know that prospects want to see multiple demos without filling out 17 forms.

It's a great compromise, don’t you think?

Samsara showed us a similar tip for Edition #25. Is this β€˜gate-the-whole-thing’ strategy becoming a trend, or just a coincidence?
