🀫 Show, Don't Tell #12 - Product demos should wiggle (at least a little)

Read Time: 4.2 minutes

Welcome to our 12th edition of Show, Don't Tell. A newsletter to help you build REMARKABLE interactive demos...3 tips at a time.

This week we'll:

  1. Make your last slide hit home
  2. Double your product's visual impact
  3. Look at a loading screen that doesn't feel like a loading screen

Let's get after it...

We are Navattic fanatics.

We had the idea for this newsletter after hundreds of hours spent building Navattic demos for our past companies and current clients. We love making remarkable interactive demos, and want to share helpful tips and examples so you can too.

A huge thanks to Navattic for helping make this a reality. If you want to create a better experience for your buyers, go check them out.

Tip #1 - End with Proof, Not Promises

I was scrolling through Appcues' demo the other day and hit their last slide expecting the usual "Talk to Sales" snooze-fest.

Instead? They hit me with the perfect mic drop: real results, and social proof right when I was deciding whether to bounce or not.

Why I'm stealing this idea:

  • It addresses the "where's the proof" objection
  • It turns a transactional CTA into a trust-building opportunity
  • It creates that final push of confidence right at the decision moment

Remember how I raved about Herd Security setting clear expectations upfront in Edition #10? This is the perfect bookend because you start by promising value, end by proving it's real.

DemoDash Pro Tip: Your last slide is prime real estate for killing objections, not begging for meetings.

Tip #2 - Make Your Product Move (Even When They Don't)

Minviro just blew my mind with the simplest trick: they put animated GIFs of their product directly in their explanation text.

While everyone else is doing the usual "static screenshot + explanation" combo, Minviro created this hypnotic effect where you see the product actually working while you read about it.

Here's why it's brilliant:

  • It catches both the "readers" and the "skimmers" in one shot
  • It shows the product in action without forcing a click
  • It creates this layered impression that just hits different

I've been obsessing over this approach since I saw it. It's perfect for those prospects who click through your demo like they're being timed (which, let's be honest, is most of them).

This accomplishes the same goal as Ramp from last week, which is driving attention to what matters.

→ Check out the product, within the product

Tip #3 - Have Fun With Your Wait Times

Let's talk about those awkward 3-4 seconds when your demo is loading. Most companies pretend this moment doesn't exist. Preservica turns it into an opportunity.

Instead of leaving users staring at a blank screen wondering if something broke, they added this simple "Wait while we load your tour" message that feels surprisingly personal.

It's such a small thing, but it completely changes the vibe:

  • It acknowledges the human on the other side
  • It maintains the conversation during an awkward tech moment
  • It shows attention to detail that speaks volumes about their product

This reminds me of Kickup's delightful running man animation from Edition #3. It's finding those overlooked moments where a touch of personality makes your whole demo feel more intentional.

Next time you're building a demo, look for those "in-between" moments everyone else ignores. That's where the magic happens.

Create beautiful table data in seconds, using AI πŸͺ„

If you're like me, you've never seen a demo instance with table data that isn't a TOTAL MESS 😣.

But fixing it means getting your engineering team involved or manually updating tables in Navattic, cell-by-cell.

Until now 😲

Navattic's new Table AI feature let's you instantly update table values in bulk using simple AI-powered prompts.

No more manual adjustments. Just describe the changes you need to make and watch your data update in seconds.
