🤫 Show, Don't Tell #29 - That couldn't have been a demo, could it?

Read Time: 4.5 minutes

Welcome to our 29th edition of Show, Don't Tell. A newsletter to help you build REMARKABLE interactive demos...3 tips at a time.

This week we:

  1. Open up a gift-wrapped demo experience
  2. Take up real estate with a custom nav CTA
  3. Give your image capture demos a slick new home

Let's get after it...

We are Navattic fanatics.

We had the idea for this newsletter after hundreds of hours spent building Navattic demos for our past companies and current clients. We love making remarkable interactive demos, and want to share helpful tips and examples so you can too.

A huge thanks to Navattic for helping make this a reality. If you want to create a better experience for your buyers, go check them out.

Tip #1 - Keep It Smooth

It’s always nice to come across a demo that makes us smile. Introducing, AndOpen.

Jason and I couldn't get over how sleek and clickable this demo felt. Zero load time, buttery smooth transitions, and you never have to reach across the screen to click the next thing.

The best part is, you don’t even know you’re taking an interactive demo. It feels like the dev team built it when they coded the website.

We did some analysis and we think the secret sauce is:

  • They're using screenshots instead of HTML (hence the instant load times)
  • Custom-sized tooltips that fit perfectly in tight spots
  • Strategic tooltip placement that creates a natural clicking flow

There’s a 110% chance we’ll be suggesting this to some of our clients.

Tip #2 - If You Don't Succeed, Try Your Nav Bar

You can’t always slap a demo CTA on your homepage or top-nav, but literally everyone can customize their drop-down navigation.

Encord created their own real estate in the nav bar with custom branding specifically for their demo. It's not buried in a dropdown or competing with other links either.

It's got its own special spot that draws your eye (and mouse) right to it.

This is a good one to screenshot because:

  • Custom styling makes the demo pop
  • It's always visible no matter what page you're on
  • Gives demos premium placement without asking for too much

Sometimes the best real estate is the space everyone's ignoring.

Tip #3 - Demos Look Better in a Device

Looking for a way to make your image capture demos more engaging?

Take a page from Rokt, and embed your screens in the context of a device, like a phone, tablet, or laptop.

Navattic makes it super easy and the results are slick. Visitors actually feel like they're sitting at their laptop, in this case, booking seats to see the Nets!

And here's a tip: Once you've configured your setting for one capture, select "Apply across collection" to automatically apply the same settings across every capture in your collection.

🚀 Introducing Launchpad: The end of “groundhog‑day demos”

After 5 years, dozens of SE conversations, and 6+ months of customer testing, Navattic has finally solved this one massive problem:

The ground-hog day demo.

During his time as an sales engineer at Orcale, their co-founder Neil, built an awesome demo environment. His reward? Being stuck giving the same intro demo over and over again.

“I was doing the same high-level demo time and time again. SEs really add value as technical support throughout so many parts of the sales cycle - POCs, sandbox configurations, deeper technical discussions, but I was stuck in the same intro high-level demo repeatedly.”

Neil wanted an easy way for sales to share and customize demos to help reduce the need for those generic high-level intros.

That's what sparked the idea for Navattic, and now, the release of Launchpad, a centralized portal for sellers to share demos, understand buyer interest, and uncover new stakeholders.
