🤫 Show, Don't Tell #38 - G2 needs demos, too

Read Time: 3.9 minutes

Welcome to our 38th edition of Show, Don't Tell. A newsletter to help you build REMARKABLE interactive demos...3 tips at a time.

This week we:

  1. Set the foundation for any demo center
  2. Show you something so obvious it hurts
  3. Make you pause and watch what happens

Let's get after it...

We are Navattic fanatics.

We had the idea for this newsletter after hundreds of hours spent building Navattic demos for our past companies and current clients. We love making remarkable interactive demos, and want to share helpful tips and examples so you can too.

A huge thanks to Navattic for helping make this a reality. If you want to create a better experience for your buyers, go check them out.

Tip #1 - When Your Demos Get the Royal Treatment

Demo centers can be a bit messy. You land on them and immediately feel overwhelmed by tiny thumbnails, competing text blocks, and unclear navigation that makes you wonder if it's even worth clicking around.

Enter Rally.

They have one of our favorite demo center examples with super clean design. The demo blocks are HUGE and take up about 75% of the screen, leaving just 25% for explainer copy on the left.

Rally even organizes it by use cases first, then have separate persona tours at the bottom.

Here’s our take:

  • The demo should be the main attraction, not competing with text
  • Use case organization helps people find what they care about quickly
  • Clean hierarchy that doesn't overwhelm visitors

What do you think about their layout?

Tip #2 - The G2 Move Everyone's Missing

If you go to your G2 profile right now, are there any interactive demos on it?

Profound reminded Jason and I how important this is, so we asked: "why isn't everyone doing this?"

Think about it: you're already spending a ton on your G2 presence. Why not let them actually try it right there?

Sure, you’re putting your product on another company’s site. But we see obvious benefits, like:

  • Prospects are already in evaluation mode when they're on G2
  • They might never see the demo that’s on your own website

We felt like this is one of those "so obvious once you see it" things. Are we crazy?

Tip #3 - Add Motion Whenever You Can

Want to surprise your audience? Do what Samsara does.

Instead of a stale, static image that they might click through...they add a living GPS experience. It's a simple concept but makes a huge difference in how engaging the demo feels.

We try to put motion into every one of our demos now because:

  • Movement naturally draws your eye and holds attention
  • Makes static interfaces feel more alive and realistic

This connects to previous tips about GIFs from Edition #24 and embedded animations from Edition #12.

Most demos show you frozen moments. Samsara shows you living, breathing interfaces.
