🤫 Show, Don't Tell #42 - This is what a demo center should look like

Read Time: 4.1 minutes

This is our 42nd Edition of Show Don’t Tell…and this one is special. We're doing a full demo center feature because this one nailed pretty much everything. This week we:

  1. Add custom visuals that scream “press me”
  2. Keep it nice, neat, and organized
  3. Make sure you can't miss it

Let's get after it with Appcues...

We had the idea for this newsletter after hundreds of hours spent building Navattic demos for our past companies and current clients. We love making remarkable interactive demos, and want to share helpful tips and examples so you can too.

A huge thanks to Navattic for helping make this a reality. If you want to create a better experience for your buyers, go check them out.

Tip #1 - Design It Like You Care

I’m not a HUGE fan of generic demo centers. You put all this work into building some sweet demos just to end with "we used the default settings" vibe.

Appcues said “F that.” Their entire demo center is filled with personality and TLC.

It kicks off with an oversized custom "start tour" screen for their overview demo. You can’t miss it and it’s almost impossible not to click on it. Then every subsequent demo has custom thumbnails and cover images, not just some product screenshot.

When your demo center looks this good, it tells me that you probably sweat the details in your product and services too.

See how they sweat the details

Tip #2 - Fix the "where the heck do I start?" Problem

You ever land on a demo or resource center and have no idea where to start? Everything's just... there.

Appcues organized theirs into clear sections by use case and "how it works." It's not groundbreaking, but it's shocking how many companies don't do this.

You can have 20 incredible demos, but if nobody knows which one to click first, congrats – you just built an abandoned demo center.

Remember when we praised Adaptive Security's clean demo center organization last week in Edition #41? And Close’s Demo Site from way back? Appcues falls somewhere in between and we LOVE it.

No trouble getting started here!

Tip #3 - Make Your Demo Center Impossible to Miss

Building a beautiful demo center that nobody can find is like throwing a party and forgetting to send invites.

Appcues plastered "Take a Tour" CTAs everywhere you go. Right in the main nav and pretty much anywhere you might be thinking "I want to see how this works."

Most companies build a great demo center then argue about where the link should go. Then it ends up getting buried somewhere.
